Green Plumbing
A house that conserves water saves money and energy as well as the environment. Most people would like to make their home more eco friendly when they remodel but are not sure how. Even if the only room undergoing a remodel is the kitchen or a bathroom, no problem! These are great rooms to take that first step to become a more environmentally conscious homeowner by conserving one of our most precious natural resources, water. This is such an easy fix to a home today because manufacturers have been extremely proactive on the green front and are offering many options to consumers.
When looking for the most efficient products to install in your kitchen and/or bathroom look for “WaterSense”
Certified products. There are many to choose from in a variety of prices and styles from manufacturers like Kohler, TOTO, American Standard, Sterling etc. All are manufacturers you are familiar with and products that are readily available. Even better, many of these products are ADA compliant.
The standard for a high efficiency toilet is 1.6gpf but you can also get toilets as low as 1.28gpf,
like the Flowise by American Standard. Even better is the dual flush toilet
. The dual flush toilet is simply a toilet with two buttons (flush actuators) that typically flush at .8gpf for light waste and 1.6gpf for solid waste. The user selects which button to use.
A great place to check your savings

is the EPA website,
www.epa.gov/watersense where they can link to their calculator and see the savings in gallons of water and dollars. You can also use this calculator for low flow faucets. So have fun with it, help the environment and show your eco friendly side!
